A therapist since 1979, Van der Horst was Director of Training and Clinical Services at the NLP Center for Advanced Studies, in San Francisco. In his private practice, he works in wide variety of healing contexts with adults, adolescents, couples and in family therapy. He employs an integral spectrum of Brief Therapy modalities including neuro-linguistic programming, narrative therapy, and therapeutic hypnosis—which he has taught in French and American medical schools. Van der Horst has worked with:
